The patch element influence on stress-strain state of the pressure vessel having local wall reduction
Study of the stress-strain state of two similar pressure vessels having local wall reduction on inner side in middle part of the shell was made. One of the vessels was reinforced by patch element located in wall reduction zone on outside surface of the shell. The stress-strain state of the vessels was studied by using the finite element simulation. Also hydraulic test of the two vessels with the local wall reduction was produced. One of the tested vessels was reinforced by welded patch element. Stresses in the wall of the shell were measured using strain gages and acoustic-emission signals were registered during hydraulic test. The finite element simulation and hydraulic test results showed that reinforcing patch element allows to rise pressure vessel strength especially in the elastic-plastic deformation zone.
